Ekiti Must Vote Strong Character And Value in June 21 - by Olufemi Aduwo

The people of Ekiti State must know that good virtue and time tested principle are ideal in every consideration. They should know that they are the ultimate authority that decides who governs them and manage their commonwealth very effectively.  This becomes necessary in order that the state may retain its treasured progressive inclination to politics.
It is important to stress here again that party affiliation should not count for the Ekitis as they decide the direction which the state political power will go in the June 21st 2014 governorship election.
Our deep sympathy for Ekiti State impresses it on us to suggest for the electorate to vote for the best candidate with track records, the most trusted among candidates, the one with a noble character and virtue as well as the most determined to transform the fortune of Ekiti.
Latest signs are that some moneybags have been camping in Ekiti, colluding with rabble-rousing politicians while attempting to misinform the educated populace on who should be their candidate in the election. Reports have it that monies are being shared to vulnerable voters and that billions had earlier been budgeted for the purpose of aiding their misadventure. This will, of course, amount to mortgaging the future of the Ekitis.
In a nutshell, our view is that Ekiti needs a rational governor not a demagogue. Ekiti needs a stable mind as governor not a rabble-rouser. Ekiti needs progress and stability not unnecessary interjections that will do the state no good. Ekiti needs an urbane and avuncular leader, not a semi-literate, Ekiti needs a democrat not a dictator and most importantly, Ekiti needs a prudent manager not one to waste resources.
The Omoluabi concept in Yoruba tradition and moral suasion is not for nothing. It is a concept that tells much about the virtue of good conduct, respect for elders, people and institutions. An Omoluabi can never be rude to the next man. He will always respect his father, mother, siblings, neighbours, chiefs, traditional rulers and God. An Omoluabi is ever levelheaded and is never boastful. He is prudent not extravagant. He is predictable in character and conduct not egregious. These are the values Ekitis should embrace as they file out next month to vote for the next governor.
Since the creation of Ekiti State, every indication has been that the state has a date with history. Ekiti, though may be small compared with many of the first generation states in Nigeria, yet, it evinces signs of prosperity and great future borne out of the strong character, strength and vision that an average citizen exudes always. That great future still lies within the reach of the state, which we believe, will soon emerge as the torch bearer for Nigeria on education, commerce, technology based on available indices.
To attain that feat, however, leadership must count. Thus, succinctly, we declare that Ekiti State must embrace the right leadership.
